Help for Back Pain and Knots

For years now I have suffered from back pain.  In fact, I have had a knot between my right shoulder blade and my spine that does not seem to go away no matter what I try.  I used to see a chiropractor 1 – 2 times per week which helped a lot but I couldn’t afford to keep up with it.  I work out every day, stretch, go for regular walks, and take Ibuprofen to make the pain manageable.  I have been doing research on the Internet off and on for about a year now, trying different stretching techniques and tennis ball massages to no avail.  Unfortunately, my regular every day job is a desk job so I do a lot of sitting.  This does nothing to help matters.  About a month ago I came across a message board where they were discussing a problem that sounded similar to mine.  The person was talking about something that she called a “spiky massage ball” and how this had helped her a lot.  So I did a search and found these things ranging in price from $7 – $100.  I didn’t order them and hadn’t seen them for display in any of the local stores that I had been in.  The other day I was in the dollar store downstairs from my work and something grabbed my attention.  It was an item called “dryer balls” that looked just like the “spiky massage balls” that I have seen for a much higher price.  I figured why not give it a shot.

I bought the balls and have been using them ever since.  I have one at my desk and one in my truck.  I put it up against my seat and the knot and just apply pressure.  It is amazing how much this relieves the tension in this muscle.  Don’t get me wrong, this has not immediately fixed the problem, but it has relieved some of the tension and I feel like the knot is slowly getting worked out.  I use this ball on my way to work, a few times a day during work, and on my ride home.  I continue to work out, stretch, go for regular walks and take Ibuprofen as well but the Ibuprofen use is tapering off and I finally feel like progress is being made.  I just wanted to share in case anyone is searching for a solution to their back pain as well.
